Silence breeds acceptance. Fascism is on the rise.

Back in the 90s, I lived in Vancouver, BC and became quite active in federal and provincial politics. It was an interesting time politically. In Canada, the national Conservative Party was decimated in the ’93 election, and another right-wing party (the Reform Party) became popular. This was the start of the Alberta-centric federal movement (Canadian Alliance) that inevitably merged the two parties, becoming the now Conservative Party of Canada; and got Stephen Harper into power. In my opinion, a sad time for us Canadians as they eroded our social programs, silenced our scientists, removed environmental protections, and increased the gap between the rich and poor.

In the background though,

The Silent Threat with the 2015 Canadian Federal Election

nomoreharperIf my Facebook News Feed was the barometer of the federal election outcome this fall, I would be able to lay my fears to rest…The NDP are “soaring” in the polls, everyone hates Stephen Harper, and it is time for a change…Except for one thing I can’t seem to shake… Continue reading “The Silent Threat with the 2015 Canadian Federal Election”

Stephen Harper, Canadian Environmental Groups ARE NOT terrorists! Shame on you.

The Canadian Conservative government is setting itself up to be the most right wing government in Canadian history.
There has been a steady erosion of environmental protections, lack of public consultation, aggressive erosion of rights, blatant racism to exclude First Nations negotiations when their lands are threatened by oil companies and their pipelines, as well as the muzzling of our scientists in the international community. How far right can they go? I don’t want to find out.

We are only one year into their 4 year majority government, and our future is looking scary…

Now, the Environment Minister is suggesting that people outside of Canada that fund Canadian environmental groups are money laundering! WTF? Seriously?

It is OK for foreign ‘investors’ to bring in big money to help extract our natural resources, and the Conservatives are welcoming this foreign money. But the moment people question our poor environmental record and send money to legitimate environmental groups to fight and oppose things like the environmentally crippling tar sands, they are doing something criminal?

What a crock of shit.

Stephen ‘Baby Bush’ Harper, you are an embarrassment to Canada.

“Some charitable environmental groups in Canada are “laundering” funds from offshore donors to obstruct Canada’s environmental assessment process, Environment Minister Peter Kent says.

Kent made the comment Tuesday in a wide-ranging interview on CBC’s Power & Politics when asked by host Evan Solomon to clarify a comment he made earlier on CBC Radio’s The House.

In The House interview that aired Saturday, Kent said the government has been concerned charitable agencies have been used “to launder offshore foreign funds for inappropriate use against Canadian interest.”

Just came across this website apologizing for Stephen Harper. lol. I thought it was cute and thought I would share. And, sorry again for letting you all down…I didn’t vote for him…

“Sorry, World. We messed up.We know you look to us as one of the last great strongholds of common sense in a swirling sea of crazy on this big ol’ crazy planet of ours.Decriminalized marijuana, same-sex marriage, our peace keeping force, universal health care, education, our stance on environment, human rights, and religious freedom made us look pretty darn awesome. Now were realizing that those things that made us awesome are being taken away from us, and its not just us Canadians who are paying the price.Turns out some of us thought it would be a grand idea to put this fucking guy in charge.”

My List of Wishes and Pipe Dreams for 2012

I am starting to compile some of my wishes(and pipe dreams) for 2012. Not necessarily a New Year’s Resolution as a list of stuff I hope happens or doesn’t happen in the coming year.

So without further ado, here are my top 20 wishes for 2012.

  1. That I have a healthy baby come mid March and that my wife makes it through having the baby un-scathed.
  2. That we find a perfect house to move into come March. Man, I hope so…
  3. That it is a banner year for Linux!
  4. That Remember the Milk FINALLY does an interface update! Oh, and includes location reminders from IOS 5.
  5. That my kids find better ways of getting along so I don’t go insane!
  6. That Facebook has a mass exodus and people I KNOW start to use Twitter or Google+ more.
  7. That I mountain bike on every stat holiday this coming up year! I only missed a couple in 2011. And of course ride a whole lot more!
  8. That my bike survives another year with minimal cost!
  9. That my wife gets on her new bike next year and I can go out riding with all of my family more often.
  10. That I loose 10 to 15 pounds and feel like the fit guy I did a couple of years ago.
  11. That they come up with a cheap and safe solution to male pattern baldness! lol. One can hope.
  12. That my cell phone provider lets me out of my damn contract and gives me a phone credit so I can get an Android phone and dump Apple for good!
  13. That I continue running throughout the year and break the 45 minute 10km.
  14. That there is more Occupy protests and that they result in REAL changes between the rich and poor in the world.
  15. That the USA completely changes their foreign policy and focus on the poor in their own country, and not on oil in the middle east.
  16. That I have sex more often than ever before! haha. I can wish, can’t I?
  17. That my hard drives don’t crash and my backups are up to date…
  18. That I see friends more often than I did this year, and that I keep in touch more.
  19. That Stephen Harper has a mass caucus revolt and the NDP become the ruling party.
  20. That religion slowly fades into oblivion and people start treating each other as equals based on being good to one another, rather that judging and killing in the name of their god.

Well, I’m sure there are a bunch of more important things I could have wished for, but seeing that there is no Genie in a bottle, I can change them at any time…

What do you hope for in 2012? Let me know by leaving a comment…
